Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how ReelTide ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our service. By using ReelTide, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

What We Collect

Information you provide directly

  • Account information: name, email address, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text).
  • Submitted links: YouTube URLs you provide, and the metadata (title, description, thumbnail, category) we extract from them.
  • Bilibili session credentials: stored encrypted, used only to publish videos on your instruction. Never shared with any party other than Bilibili's own servers, and only as part of the publishing process you initiate.
  • Communications: messages you send to our support team, including any attachments or information you include.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: log data such as IP address, timestamps, browser type, device information, and actions taken in the app, used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze how the service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may affect functionality.

Information from third parties

  • Payment records: transaction status, amount, and currency for credits purchased. We use two payment providers, depending on your location and currency:
    • Paddle acts as our Merchant of Record for certain transactions. When Paddle processes your payment, Paddle acts as an independent data controller for the billing and transaction data it collects from you — meaning Paddle is separately responsible for that data under its own privacy policy, not merely processing it on our instructions.
    • Paystack acts as our payment processor for certain transactions. Unlike Paddle, we remain the merchant of record for Paystack payments, and Paystack processes that data on our behalf under contractual terms.
    • In neither case do we store your full card or payment details on our servers.
  • Third-party account data: when you connect your Bilibili account, we receive session credentials and basic account information necessary to publish on your behalf.

How We Use Your Information

We use the data above to:

  • Operate the service: extracting and publishing your videos, processing payments, and maintaining your account;
  • Communicate with you about your account, transfers, or transactions;
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents;
  • Debug and improve the service;
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service;
  • Send you service-related notices and, where permitted, marketing communications (which you can opt out of at any time).

Legal Basis for Processing

Where required by law (such as under the GDPR or Kenya's Data Protection Act), we process your personal information on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: processing necessary to provide the service you have requested;
  • Legitimate interests: processing for security, fraud prevention, debugging, and service improvement, where these interests are not overridden by your rights;
  • Consent: where you have given explicit consent, such as for marketing communications or international transfers;
  • Legal obligation: processing necessary to comply with applicable law.

Who We Share It With

We share the minimum necessary data with:

  • YouTube, to retrieve the videos and metadata you submit;
  • Bilibili, to publish videos to the account you connect;
  • Paddle and Paystack, our payment providers, to process credit purchases (see above for how each handles your data);
  • Our email delivery provider, to send account and transactional emails;
  • Infrastructure and hosting providers, who store and process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations;
  • Professional advisors and authorities, where required by law or necessary to protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Data Retention

  • Video files are retained temporarily and deleted automatically after a limited period (currently 30 days), while records of the transaction (title, status, credit usage) are kept for accounting and support purposes.
  • Bilibili session credentials are retained until you disconnect your account or your session expires and cannot be renewed.
  • Account data is retained until you delete your account.
  • Payment records and certain other records may be retained for longer where required by tax, accounting, or other legal obligations. When retention is no longer necessary, we securely delete or anonymize the data.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correction: request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • Deletion: request that we delete your personal information;
  • Restriction: request that we restrict processing of your information;
  • Portability: request a copy of your information in a structured, machine-readable format;
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • Withdraw consent: withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
  • Complain: lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Deleting your account removes your stored videos, connected Bilibili credentials, and personal information from our active systems, subject to any records we are legally required to retain (such as payment records for tax purposes). Billing data held by Paddle as an independent controller is subject to Paddle's own retention and deletion practices.

International Data Transfers

ReelTide is operated from Kenya. Depending on your location, your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including where our infrastructure or third-party providers (including Paddle and Paystack) are hosted. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or your explicit consent. By using the service, you consent to this transfer.

Security

Sensitive credentials (Bilibili session data, OAuth tokens) are encrypted at rest. We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security reviews.

However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account password secure and for notifying us immediately of any suspected unauthorized access.

Children's Privacy

ReelTide is not directed at anyone under 18, or under the age of majority where that is higher, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone below this age, we will delete it promptly. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you logged in;
  • Remember your preferences;
  • Understand how the service is used so we can improve it;

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling certain cookies may prevent parts of the service from functioning properly. We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals.

Third-Party Links and Services

The service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services (such as YouTube, Bilibili, Paddle, and Paystack). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with your information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
